Your Bio

Photography is art; photography is science. It is both truth and deception. Photography convinces you of what is real yet photography lies. It is whatever you desire yet also what you need it to be.

For all the perspectives on photography there are as many rules that people will impose, yet with photography there are no rules but only limitations that we place on ourselves. Photography is the creating of an image and the manner in how it is done; the rest is baggage we carry with us.

But this is not just about photography but about underwater photography---all the challenges of photography magnified extraordinarily and done in the presence of the irresistible forces of nature and its most awe-inspiring creatures. As long and as successfully as this craft has been done underwater, techniques have only scratched the surface. That is the irresistible draw and digital has seriously changed the game.

For me, underwater photography is not about the contest, not about the image, the art, the sale, the fame or the recognition. For me, it is about the challenge. Good images are part skill, preparedness, good fortune, and, often times, dogged determination. We cannot control what dances in front of our lens, all we can do is be ready for those magic moments in time. Here are some of the magic moments I've been given.

I've been fortunate to dive some of the world's great locations with wonderful guides, travel leaders, and talented fellow photographers. Hopefully you will enjoy these, perhaps become inspired to dive, and perhaps even share a trip with me one day. Underwater photography is an activity best enjoyed together.
